Blue Cube Toastmasters Club Movie

Ron Fredericks writes: Blue Cube Toastmasters Club recently held an open house to attract new members: Blue Cube Makes a Movie. The agenda for the open house was to make a movie. I directed, produced, and published this movie as a demonstration of what Blue Cube Toastmasters Club is all about.

Watch this movie to:

  • Learn about Toastmasters International,
  • Demonstrate how Toastmasters’ self-help public speech and leadership training works, and
  • Show potential future guests and experienced Toastmasters what makes Blue Cube unique as a club worth visiting/joining.

Background Notes

LectureMaker hosts the Blue Cube Toastmasters Club in its conference room. LectureMaker owns a professional video studio down the hall from its conference room, so it was only a matter of time before the club members got together to make a club movie.

Navigating the Video’s Time Line

Have you noticed all those red naviagtion dots embedded into LectureMaker’s video player? These dots allow a viewer to quickly get a sense of what content is included in the video.

“I usually regret when people ask me to watch online video because I just don’t know if my time will be well spent – especially a long video – so I added these red dot hot navigation spots to put online video back on Internet time” – said Ron Fredericks, designer of LectureMaker’s video player.

With these navigation dots, the nature of “Watch my video” has really changed for the better!

Here is a list of navigation dots embedded into this video.  This may help you quickly find content of interest in this video.

Toastmasters Officer Training Keynote

Toastmasters International: Officer Training Keynote Speech

Ron Fredericks writes: Many events include a keynote speech as part of their venues. Yet, very few events I have attended deliver a keynote that I would want to share with others outside the event itself. This particular event was graced with a keynote speech that was entertaining, informative, and motivational as a goal for the human spirit as well as for the attendees of this officer training session. As a result I am fortunate to be able to share this particular event’s keynote speech as a LectureMaker video for others to watch – even to those that have never been to a Toastmasters officer training event.

The February 25′th Sunnyvale officer training event itself was put together by Toastmasters District 4, Division C governor Frank Chen. Great job Frank, and the same goes to your event team and trainers as well. Additional thanks to Toasters R Us club and Synopsis for providing the venue for this training session. I would also like to thank the members of the Blue Cube Toastmasters club for helping me to setup and film this special event – Gopal Patil in particular for volunteering as key grip and cameraman on short notice.

Frank delivered a compelling and informative introduction to Vish. I plan to refer back to Frank’s technique as demonstrated in the video from time to time so I too can try and deliver such a compelling introduction to talented presenters at future events. A wrap-up session was delivered by Diane Vaughn as the final scene in this video. She breaks the keynote speech down into small enough chunks along with their associated segues so viewers can better understand the structure behind this compelling keynote speech.

Introduction to Google Android Software Platform

Ron Fredericks writes: LectureMaker was on scene filming Marko Gargenta deliver his Introduction to Google’s Android Software Platform during the September 3′rd regular meeting of the Software Development Forum (SDForum) Mobile Internet Special Interest Group meeting. Peter Lam was the host representing the Software Development Forum for this meeting, while Peter’s co-host Joe Jasin was traveling. The site for the event was located at the Orrick Law Office in Menlo Park with very friendly facilitators and signage to help a new visitor like me easily locate the meeting within the three building complex.

Marko is an industry expert in Android, a technical and business trainer for Android and other open-source technologies, co-author of PHP and MySQL by Example published by Prentice Hall, leader of the San Francisco Android User Group, founder of a leading technical training company called Marakana, and more…

The presentation covers both a business and developer perspective with several practical examples and live demonstrations.  See the list of quesitons and main topics represented as red navigation dots embedded in the video, as well as a time line near the end of this post.

Nick Hayes: Marketing Is Broken, Influencers Can Fix It

Ron Fredericks writes: Companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP have demonstrated the fantastic value derived from their influencer ecosystems. Nick Hayes in a lecture at the San Francisco Commonwealth Club shows attendees just how they too can identify and leverage significant value from the diverse individuals who influence decision-makers in their ecosystems.

Thanks to Barbara French and Nick Hayes of Influencer50, I was able to capture and post Nick’s lecture as a video (below). I would also like to thank the San Francisco Commonwealth Club’s team for making video setup and tear-down so easy.

LectureMaker’s portable video broadcast station can also be seen in action near the bottom of the photo as well. You can zoom in and navigate around this photo by clicking and dragging with your mouse. [Note: the photo repaints itself into sharp focus in a few seconds after each change in perspective.]

Video Rig

Ron Fredericks writes: LectureMaker set up a special video rig to film a ride from Silicon Valley to San Francisco. The camera was mounted into a car with a small tripod secured with gaffer tape. The lens was outfitted with a circular polarizer to eliminate glare from the in-car navigation unit. The photo below includes a Zoomify web navigator plug-in and a wordpress plug-in to make blog posting easy called YD Zoomify.

Driving to the Commonwealth Club – the Setup

Using the video camera setup described above, I recorded my trip up to the San Francisco Commonwealth Club. Watch the video to see visual landmarks along the way. Listen to the video to learn what others feel is the best parking strategies when driving to the Commonwealth Club. Finally, watch the video to see how to get to the Gold Room inside the Commonwealth Club building itself.
